GETTING TO KNOW YOURSELF
Everyone has qualities, things we are good at. We might not even be aware that we have these qualities. Should somebody ask us about them, we sometimes have to delve deep, because we easily overlook capacities which are so common to us. People are comfortable with their qualities; they have often become their specialty. Some are good organizers, others good listeners, another prefers to be alone and the next one makes friends easily.
Besides that, there are things that we are not very good at. We all know situations in which we are insecure or feel resistance, that give us stress or that we even avoid. Some people avoid conflict, others are afraid of their own emotions and others again find it difficult to express themselves the way they would like. And how many of us do not have difficulties to admit they are wrong.
Everybody has grounds for certain behavior, but we cannot always understand why we do what we do. This way we could remain imprisoned by the limitations dictated by our behavior.
Know Thy Self.
The old Greeks already knew: ‘He, who knows himself, knows the secret of the Gods’.
Thus says Lao Tzu
He who knows others is learned
He who knows himself is wise
The better we understand and know ourselves – our strong and weak points, our fears and shortcomings, what we avoid and why, what makes us happy, why we procrastinate, etc – the better we are able to break free from old limiting patterns and find new ways to achieve what we really want.
NLP and the Enneagram can help you find answers to the questions you have. The models invite you to look in different ways at the person who you are. Gaining insight in your own behavior will make you understand how and why you do certain things. This better understanding of how you deal with your own issues and of who you really are will generate more sense of self and the need for changing others will disappear
